For over 35 years Tortilla Flats Santa Cruz Mexican Restaurant has delighted Santa Cruz locals and Central Coast visitors with some of the best food in Santa Cruz. Everything about this Santa Cruz restaurant, from the earth tone walls decorated with antique pottery to the luscious desserts is the creation of owner Cheryl Marquez. Inspired by the French and Mexican cuisines of New Orleans while living in the French Quarter, Cheryl has traveled extensively throughout Mexico and the American Southwest tasting and exploring the gourmet cuisine and culture of Mexico.
Catalina Delgado Trunk grew up in Mexico celebrating the Mexican holiday of Día del Muertos, the Day of the Dead. After raising her family here in America, she soon found herself creating Mexican folk art, particularly those forms related to this celebration. She has created beautiful ofrendas, the colorful family altars that honor those who have departed this life, and she is especially well known for her papel picado designs cut into many layers of colorful tissue paper. Some of her works are displayed at Tortilla Flats.
